She has been researching the topic of slavery in Canada for many years. She will be presenting two films related to the topic, <strong><em>Whitewash<\/em><\/strong>, an experimental documentary as well as the short dramatic film <strong><em>Fire and Fury.<\/em><\/strong> She will be discussing the research and process behind the two works and their relationship to an immersive project she is currently developing.<\/p>\n<p><em>About the artist:<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rebelsandmisfitsmedia.com\" target=\"_blank\">Nadine Valcin<\/a> <\/strong>is an award winning bilingual producer, writer and director. She has directed four documentary projects for the National Film Board of Canada, including the critically acclaimed <em>Black, Bold and Beautiful<\/em> and <em>Une \u00e9cole sans fronti\u00e8res<\/em> (A School without Boarders). Most recently, she has written and directed three short dramatic films and is developing two feature films. <em>Terre d\u2019asile<\/em> (in French) and <em>My Own Angel<\/em> (in English). Nadine has been awarded numerous grants and prizes including the prestigious Chalmers Arts Fellowship and a Drama Prize from the National Screen Institute for the short film<em> In Between<\/em>. She holds a professional degree in architecture from McGill University and is an alumnus of Doc Lab, the Women in the Director\u2019s Chair, and the National Screen Institute. She was an artist-in-residence at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University for the 2015-2016 academic year.
